Family constellation is a phenomenological approach that bypasses the usual psychotherapeutic efforts of psychologists and psychotherapists alike. Here "the story" of a persons problem is bypassed all together. The only thing taken into consideration is actual events and exclusions that took place in a family system.Family Constellation is inner exploration of the phenomenal world of being. In family constellation a client chooses participants in the group, in a random way, to stand in, as representatives for their family members. They even choose someone to represent themselves. Once chosen the client then places them in the constellation according to their intuition of where they should stand in relation to one another. These positions reveal much about the family dynamic, even at first glance. The representatives, standing in their positions are then required to tune into the person they are representing. In doing so, they find themselves experiencing different feelings, emotions, physical shifts and changes and subtle movements of the body mind. The hidden energy dynamics of the family begin to interact and surface with gentle guidance and questions given by the facilitator. As causes of problems unfold, healing sentences are given to help bring together that which has previously been excluded or forgotten by the family. In this process a new respect and honouring of what happened in the family is achieved. Old images causing pain, conflict and tension dissolve and a new image, in the present, is formed and orientated towards creative future outcomes.
