The AIYA is an Indigenous owned and operated not for profit company committed to closing the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians employment and educational retention rates. The framework of the AIYA is aligned with the Federal Govts 2008 announcement to Close the Gap between Indigenous and non Indigenous Australians through the formation of a Council of Australian Government (COAG). The AIYA is designed to comprehensively satisfy 3 of the 6 target areas stated in the Close the Gap initiative: 1. Halve the gap in reading, writing & numeracy achievements for children within a decade. 2. Halve the gap for Indigenous students in year 12 attainment or equivalent attainment rates by 2020. 3. Halve the gap in employment outcomes between Indigenous & non-Indigenous Australians within a decade. The AIYA has designed and developed a holistic model - the Indigenous Education Package (IEP) - in order to focus on the 3 target areas mentioned previously. The IEP has been initially developed for the Moreton Bay Regional Shire and will in time be modified and expanded throughout Brisbane initially and then on to a State level. Main Program: * Indigenous Education Package - School Based Traineeships (Certificate 3 in Fitness; Community Recreation; Sport & Recreation) - Embedded Cultural/Traditional aspects - Literacy & Numeracy program * Fee for Service Programs - Cultural Appreciation workshops - Traditional Games delivery - Holiday programs Testimonial - 'Young Carers Project' (YCP) "YCP recently conducted a four-day arts-based workshop and employed a coach from the AIYA to assist with event....We have already asked AIYA to provide coaches for our next round of activities in the September holidays and would like them to assist us with our annual Family Fun Day later in the year. However, we are most looking forward to the Young Carers Project Games Day....Overall, we look forward to working with AIYA in the future"....
