Each piece of furniture is individually designed and crafted with not only form and function in mind but also the natural beauty of the timber being used. Having studied and worked in the visual-arts industry I enjoy creating new designs and concepts; this includes working with clients to help develop their ideas and concepts on bespoke furniture. Modern low cost furniture tends to be manufactured with speed and profit in mind rather than longevity, environmental impact or sometimes the legality of timber sources. This mindset promotes the use of nail guns and cheap materials to create furniture that will become loose and rickety within a few years. Out of respect for the materials, I use fine joinery techniques throughout construction, such as mortice-and-tenon and half-blind dovetail joints, resulting in furniture that is beautiful in its simplicity, sturdy and durable. These joinery techniques are more time intensive than using nail guns and simple screwed joints, but they produce stronger joinery that will stand the test of time. We are lucky in Australia, having some of the most beautiful timbers in the world, from well-known timbers such as Huon Pine, Jarrah and Red Gum to less well known timbers such as Blackbean, Macadamia and Quandong. Each with its own unique colour and finish. I love to work with recycled & reclaimed timber from old homes and commercial buildings as I believe this is an underutilised resource. This recycled & reclaimed timber has history, and once the old nails have been removed and the surface sanded back it is truly beautiful. I also use driftwood to produce rustic furniture pieces whenever possible. - Additional Information:
