James Cole first showed an interest in the photographic arts when in his childhood. He would set up toy dinosaurs in his back yard and take photos of them to try and make them look real. The fascination grew and in his twenties, evolved into motion pictures as he pursued a career in the film industry. He began working as a director of photography and then as an editor and visual effects artist. His career has taken him from the sets of well over one hundred commercials, to music videos and Hollywood movies, crossing a wide range of genres and styles. Throughout all this his first love of photography has progressed in the background as a hobby. He has long since evolved from the early days of using an instant camera, to 35mm film and now digital. From his career in visual effects, James has learnt how to push the boundaries of digital technologies to create evocative and emotive imagery. His art transcends classification, with bleak visions of the future, intense political statements, realms of fantasy and imagination and much more. James Cole is an artist, a poet, and philosopher with the technical flair to back it up.
