Description: KOBUKAI AIKIDO PERTH THE YOSEIKAN TRADITION We have been at our current location in Scarborough (since 2002) training under Edwards Sensei, a direct student of Yoshiaki Unno sent here in 1973 to teach Yoseikan Aikido in Perth. As a non-profit organisation, we are determined to preserve the traditions of Aikido as set down by the founder. Moreover, we wish to create a dojo with great spirit and great people. We are very mindful of peopleâ??s limitations and allow students to progress at their own pace. Most importantly to us is to be respectful of the current laws surrounding the use of weapons in training as Aikido has its origins as a Samurai martial art. We work out of the Stirling Community Hall (formerly PCYC) as it provides us with discounted fees for room hire and all equipment necessary to practise Aikido. None of our instructors are paid as we consider it a labour of love and part of the legacy we leave behind. Please consider this before you decide to join, as people are volunteering their time free of charge. Yoshiaki Unno facebook Unno Sensei was sent to Australia in 1973 to commence teaching Aikido by Mochizuki. Unno was the founder of Yoseikan Budo in Australia, state karate coach and hand to hand combat instructor for the SAS. Unno Sensei had around 30 dan grades. He holds 6th dan in aikido, jujitsu, karate and iaido, 4th dan in Nihonden kempo and a 2nd dan in judo. He also held dan grades in other styles of aikido and karate. Darren Edwards Darren commenced training with Unno Sensei in 1990 and trained with him right up until his death in 2006 Unnoâ??s health became very poor in 2000 and ultimately students of Unno commenced teaching in various spaces around Perth. Darren has been teaching Yoseikan Aikido since 2002 at the Scarborough Community Hall (formerly PCYC) and has been responsible for grading many black belts.
