Credited for making some of the best reds in Australia, Bill Calabria has dedicated his life to winemaking. Westend Estate have not just built a reputation for their own wines; but over the years have lifted the status of the entire Riverina region. For years I was guilty of sharing the same view on Griffith red wines as most Griffith winemakers. And that view was that quality red wine from Griffith was an oxymoron. We - speaking in the broader sense of the collective - have one man to thank for proving us all to be wrong, and his name is Bill Calabria" Jeremy Oliver, Respected wine writer and Author of The Wine Annual. Since 1945, the Calabria family is still making wine with old wine techniques passed on by Francesco and Elizabeth Calabria, newly arrived from south Italy in1927 and established Westend Estate Wines. Today passion for wine runs in the family, with their son, Bill, his wife, Lena and their four children, Frank, Michael, Andrew and Elizabeth all actively involved with their dedication for winemaking being reflected in the estates superb portfolio.
