Gaining Momentum is a Clinical Psychology practice based in Dee Why on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. We specialising in helping clients who are adjusting to motherhood and finding the transition to becoming a parent challenging. Motherhood is incredibly rewarding and it can also be very challenging. Many women move from full-time work into full-time motherhood in a short space of time. The complexities of dealing with a newborn baby are compounded by a sense of isolation associated with being at home all day often alone. Many mothers, at some point, feel overwhelmed by the parenting experience and struggle with feelings of isolation, loss of control and/or loss of identity. A second area of speciality is working with people who are having difficulty coping after losing their job through retrenchment or redundancy; this is particularly topical in the current economic environment. Going through a job loss can be a grieving process for many people and can trigger a multitude of emotions.
