No one can tell me "You do not understand" I have had T1DM for over 40yrs, to hell and back as a teenager and young adult, I have been in hard places and the Drs nightmare. Now its my turn. I have been in diabetes care since my first hospital post. Used myself in research and in a way still do. I have run 2 marathons and many half marathons, traveled in India Egypt and Europe, got a scuba diving qualification, been an Australian champion winemaker . Now a proud dad with 2 fantastic children. Diabetes is not very complicated but the people who suffer from it are.To help patients manage their diabetes first find out who the patient is, how do they tick, what drives them, what do they want and where do thet want to go. Here to help not judge. Never give up, no matter how difficult you find your diabetes we will always be there to support you. It is you I am treating , not your blood glucose level. Reaching out with the hand you never thought was there and its full of finger prick marks just like yours. The ARNDC is an affiliate member of the National Association of Diabetes Centres As its principle I believe we deliver diabetes management as well as anywhere in Australia. Audit results show that our patients have an average HbA1C of just 6.7%. but that is only one measure of how well our patients are feeling. Very significant weight loss is another. Many patients come to us on insulin , with better management many of these have been able to stop their insulin injections, others have such good control they no longer need to do any finger prick testing. Commertial drivers are another group we have helped, back in control, back behind the wheel.
