Australia's largest privately-owned museum showcases owner David Walsh's collection including modern and contemporary artworks, antiquities and ethnographic pieces. Opening in 2011, Monanism is the permanent, evolving collection: highlights and lowlights, curated by David Walsh, Olivier Varenne, Nicole Durling and the MONA team. The 3.5ha site, just north of Hobart, also includes the Ether Building Function Centre, Moorilla winery and vineyard, Cellar Door, Wine Bar and Barrel Room, Void Bar, a 63-seat cinema, Cinemona, The Source Restaurant, Mona Library and Gallery, as well as eight contemporary accommodation pavilions. Off-site and nearby is the Moo Brew brewery MONA also hosts two festivals each year; the annual MONA FOMA music and arts festival in January and Dark Mofo, timed to coincide with the winter solstice in June. EXHIBITION PROGRAM Ancient, modern and contemporary art. 'Monanism' the permanent collection evolving over time. Amarna (2015) by James Turrell, at MONA Amarna is one of a series of more than 80 Skyspace installations Turrell has built in high altitude and geographically isolated locations. Until April 13, 2015, Matthew Barney: River of Fundament - This major exhibition combines large-scale sculptures (weighing up to 5 tonnes), storyboards and drawings to create an immersive experience. Until July 6, 2015, Biennale of Moving Images Hobart, 2015 - 18 new works from 20 of the world's best video artists under 40 years of age. Exhibition entry price: $A25, free for Tasmanians and under 18s. Concession $A20.
