(Expert below taken from Southern Grampians Shire Glenthompson Brochure) "The importance of the railway line to the town is represented by the fact that Mac?s Hotel is next to the railway line and off the Glenelg highway. Folklore has it that the hotel was such an attraction that passengers traveling though used to get off to have a drink whilst the stream train filled up with water. With the train full the driver had to blow the whistle to get the passengers back and failing that the driver himself took to the bar to retrieve his passengers ? needless to say the train was often very late and Macs Hotel was often to blame. Still a genuine country pub, Mac?s Hotel enjoys very good patronage from both locals and visitors." - Opening Hours:
