Providing children (3+), adolescents, and adults education in music theory and classical music (including Spanish, Brazilian, etc.) on the guitar fit to their size, the Suzuki Method continues to exhibit that talent is not innate, and that every child can learn to play music with excellent technique and musicality. Suzuki's philosophy is that learning an instrument should as easy as learning a language, that which can only be achieved by regular practice, musical games in both theory and technique, variety, and surrounding the child's environment with music. It is through early education in technique and musicality provided at a young age (or any age!) that cultivates a love for beautiful music. For more information, please see http://www.suzukimusic.org.au/ Alexandra Velasco is currently undergoing her Masters of Music (Research) at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne. Currently under the instruction of (and having completed her B.Mus(Hons) with) Dr. Ken Murray, Alex is aiming to finish her degree with a deeper understanding of Spanish and Brazilian guitar repertoire. Having recently completed her Suzuki Primary Accreditation, Alex has a dedication to building a private teaching program focusing on classical guitar technique (covering Classical or contemporary repertoire), as well as participating in various performance opportunities around Melbourne. Studying and working as a soloist on the guitar for most of her life, Alex intends to broaden her knowledge of repertoire by focusing on Brazilian ensemble music and Spanish solo repertoire. Alex hopes to continue working as a resident organist in the two churches that employ her, volunteering for arts and culture events in Melbourne, attending music festivals around Australia, and supporting Australian bands. She also intends to continue recording and performing on the electric guitar in her own new 60s/70s rock-inspired, piano-driven pop-rock band.
