I believe from information I have received that my ancestor William John Napier was an original member of the committee which founded the Protestant Alliance Friendly Society of Australia. The opening of the first lodge of the order took place at the then residence of Mr Napier at Redfern in 1873. The other pioneers associated with him being Messrs. Turner, Geniss and Mulder. He was also instrumental in founding the \'Napier\' Lodge at Enfield and afterwards the Dr Laing Lodge at Moss Vale, of which he was a member until his death in February 1913.
